The word Kufri has been originated from the word kufr which signifies a “Lake” as per the local traditions. It was discovered in 1819 by the Britishers. It is an ultimate venue that offers a perfect escape from the Hustle and Bustle of the city life. Kufri is a small hill station which is located at an altitude of 8607 feet above the sea level. It attracts a lot of tourists during summer season because of its cool and salubrious climate. None the less it can be visited in monsoon and winters as well.

It is located at a distance of 25 Kms from Ambika Hills and 14 Kms from Shimla.

Kufri is the venue for the Winter Sports Festival which is annually organized by the Tourism Department of Himachal Pradesh. Moreover, the climate is cool and it receives a considerably high amount of snow, which can even be seen for weeks after the last snowfall.

The Kufri Fun Campus, Indira Tourist Park, The Himalayan National Park, Mahasu Peak and Chini Bungalow are some of the major tourist attractions in Kufri. It is also popular for being a major Bollywood destination for shooting movies. You may also choose to go for a ride on a yak, a horse or a mule.

the Himalayan National Park
The Himalayan National Park is a major tourist attraction in Kufri. It was established in 1984 and is spread across an area of 750 Sq. Km approximately. It is a habitat of almost 180 species of birds and recherche mammals. Some of the notable animals in the park include Leopard Cat, Sambhar, Ghoral, Black Bear, Tibetan Wolf, Monal, Cheer pheasant, White Crested Kaleej, Musk Deer, and Bharal.

The immaculate design and the native surroundings of the park keep these wild animals close to their natural habitat. The animal enclosures within the park are relatively large, so you may have to hold up for some time to sight these animals. The park authorities also offer limited camping facilities and guided treks for student groups.

Mahasu Peak is the highest peak in Kufri. It’s a must visit place for everyone who comes to Kufri. The place has been used as a shooting spot for some major Bollywood movies and songs. To reach the Mahasu Peak, you may either choose to go walking or by riding a pony. However, to make your ascents more exciting, you may choose to hire a pony. There are a lot of local vendors who offer pony ride from Kufri to Mahasu Peak. It is a moderate trek with almost no steep ascents.

During the trip, your eyes will get a treat of stunning landscapes that transform every moment. Once you have reached the top of the hill, you will witness the breathtaking views of mighty and gorgeous mountain ranges of Dhauladhar, Kinnaur, and Pirpanjal. Apart from it, there are also some fast food joints, local handicraft, and woollen clothing stalls.

Kufri Fun World is Himachal’s first advanced amusement park and is located at an altitude of 9000 feet above the sea level. It is very popular for its Mini formula car racing track. During the period of snowfall, you can also experience snow skating under the supervision and guidance of their trained staff.

Here you can experience a wide range of venturesome rides like Sky Swinger, Go-Carting, Bungy Trampoline, Frish Bee Ride, Swing It, Mini Skater, Bungy Ejection for Kids, Kangaroo Jump, Wave Train, Smash Car, Haunted House, and 5-d Theater Balling Allay. Apart from it the amusement park also offers other adventure activities such as Night Jungle Safari, Burma Bridge, Commando Net Climbing, and Single Rope Climbing.

the Chini Bungalow
Chini Bungalow or Café Lalit popularly known as Chini Bangla is another famous attraction in Kufri. It is located right next to the Kufri Zoo on the road to Chail and is operated by Himachal Tourism. It is quite renowned for its architectural designs and statues which will take you to the pre-independence era.

The Chini Bungalow also has a great historical significance as India’s former Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Pakistan’s former President Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto stayed here during the Shimla Agreement in 1972 to sign an agreement for the Independence of Bangladesh. Moreover it’s a perfect venue where you can relax, have delicious food and spend a restful evening with your family.
